(i) Soluble in alcohol and weak alkalis

(ii) Capacity of forming uniform durable film

(iii) Possess high scratch hardness

(iv) Resistance to water

(v) Good adhesive nature

(vi) Ability to form good sealers, undercoat primers

(vii) Capacity to allow quick rubbing with sandpaper without slicking or gumming

No other single resin, both natural or synthetic, possess so many desirable properties and so lac is also termed as multipurpose resin.
